Shriners Burns Hospital issued the following announcement.

The health and safety of our patients, families, volunteers and employees is our highest priority at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston. Our administrative and medical staff are working closely with public health and emergency preparedness officials as we manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have implemented new screening and visitor protocols to protect our hospital family, which will remain in effect until further notice.

  • The Boston Shriners Hospital is not allowing visitors other than to visit patients at this time. Additionally, we are limiting visitors to one per patient.
  • All visitors are being screened for the following symptoms when they arrive at the hospital:
    • Fever.
    • Cough.
    • Shortness of breath.
    • Recent close contact with a COVID-19 patient.
    • Recent travel to an area where COVID-19 is active.
  • We are working with families to reschedule outpatient appointments.
  • All elective surgeries have been postponed until further notice.
  • If you have any questions regarding your child’s care, please call our main hospital line at 617-722-3000 and our operator will direct your call to the appropriate staff member.
  • All public events at the Boston Shriners Hospital have been postponed until further notice. This includes Hospital Days, visits from our therapy dogs and any other groups scheduled to visit.
  • All hospital tours have been suspended.
  • The Blossom Café is open only to patients, families and staff. All meals are being served as “take out” due to the Governor’s directive prohibiting dine-in service at eating establishments statewide.
Our environmental services, housekeeping and maintenance staff are sanitizing high touch areas multiple times a day. Please do your part to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's steps to prevent illness.

Please keep yourself educated because this is a rapidly evolving situation. Follow updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

The Boston Shriners Hospital is continually monitoring issues surrounding COVID-19, and these protocols are subject to change pending additional information.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
