Galveston County Health District is now offering free COVID-19 testing to anyone 7 years or older.
The Daily News reports testing was previously limited to anyone 65 or older; people over 50 who had certain health conditions; and those exhibiting at least two coronavirus symptoms. People older than 50 had to have at least two health conditions to be eligible for testing, including diabetes, heart disease, lung disease or a comprised immune system.
Individuals at least 7 years old, regardless of their medical status or symptoms, can now be tested for coronavirus at the Galveston County Health District’s Texas City site or its newly opened Galveston site. Appointments must be made to be tested and results are expected within 72 hours.
The Texas City site is able to conduct 276 tests a day and the Galveston site can conduct 92 daily tests.
As of April 22, Texas reported 21,069 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 543 deaths. Galveston County has 479 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
