Galveston County Judge Mark Henry, together with the 13 municipal leaders in the county, have agreed to collaborate in lifting the local rules set in place to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the county.
The agreement was reached during a phone call between the judge and the city leaders on April 20.
Speaking to The Daily News, Henry said he has been working closely with Galveston County mayors on ways they can handle the spread of the coronavirus when Gov. Greg Abbott gives the order to lift the lockdown.
Galveston County Local Health Authority Dr. Philip Keiser also spoke to The Daily News and said that the unified approach will help to re-open the county if the governor delegates this task to them.
Abbot is expected release a full statement today on how Texas will re-open businesses once the pandemic is handled.
“We agreed that we were all going to resolve to try to have a unified plan so there wasn’t going to be confusion from city to city,” Texas City Mayor Matt Doyle told The Daily News. “We don’t want to go against neighboring cities.”
