City of Clear Lake Shores issued the following announcement on April 29.

On Monday, April 27, Governor Greg Abbott signed Executive Order GA-18 that allows retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters, malls, museums and libraries to reopen beginning May 1 with a limited occupancy of no more than 25%.

To align with the Governor’s Executive Order, the City of Clear Lake Shores prepared a local phased plan to safely reopen businesses and city facilities in our community.

The City of Clear Lake Shores will continue to hold regular calls with the State of Texas, Galveston County Health District and County Emergency Operations Personnel to ensure the safety and health of our residents and businesses to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

Beginning May 1st:

• City Hall will reopen for walk-in business Monday – Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. City staff will continue to practice social distancing guidelines, sanitary practices, personal responsibility.
• The Clear Lake Shores swimming pool remains open Tuesday – Sunday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm for exercise only and furniture will not be available to the public to prevent group gathering. No more than five (5) persons inside the fenced area at a time. Social distancing should apply while in the pool and outside the pool with anyone outside your immediate household. Monitoring will take place remotely.
• Pool passes will be available at City Hall beginning Friday, May 1st. The City encourages all residents interested in purchasing pool passes to review the new agreement located at www.clearlakeshores-tx.gov/clspool. Current member gate codes will continue to work until the pool re-opening takes place and at that time City staff will issue new codes.
• Green spaces at the parks will remain open. Park equipment will remain closed until further notice.
• City Council and EDC meetings will continue to be held by video conference until further notice. The public will be able to join the video conference and offer public comments as provided by the agenda and as permitted by the presiding officer during the meeting. • All court dockets in Clear Lake Shores Municipal Court scheduled for May are being rescheduled to a later date. Clerks will be notifying individuals of their new date to appear. Please contact Municipal Court at 281-334-2799 ext. 206, 207 or 210 if you have additional questions.
• The Children’s Library is open for book borrowing. Please use hand sanitizer upon entry and do not utilize the library if you are feeling ill.
• Civic Club and Jammin on Jarboe events are postponed until further notice.

Per Governor Abbott’s Executive Order, retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters, malls, museums and libraries will be allowed to reopen with a limited occupancy of no more than 25%. Business owners are not required to open on May 1st, please contact them directly to find their hours of operation and availability.

As of today, these are the following restaurants that are scheduled to reopen on May 1st at 25% capacity:

• Chili’s (pending response)
• iHOP (pending response)
• Joe Lee’s
• Opus
• Schaffers
• Schezuan (pending response)
• Skippers
• Soulfreak

Barbershops, beauty salons, nail solons, bars and gyms must remain closed until at least May 18. Aspens and Okies will remain closed for dine in service but will continue to offer takeout until at least May 18th.

On May 18, more businesses will be able to open at 50% capacity if data shows that the coronavirus spread is contained during the first two weeks of implementing these new safety measures.

IMPORTANT RULES TO CONTINUE TO FOLLOW:

• People and businesses should follow the minimum standard health protocols recommended by DSHS, found at www.dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus, and should implement social distancing, work from home if possible, and practice good hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and sanitation.

The stay-at-home order expires on Thursday, April 30, 2020, but the gatherings of 10 people or less is still in place. We must remain vigilant, follow the guidelines recommended by the CDC and maintain social distancing.

The City of Clear Lake Shores is committed to keeping our employees, residents and visitors safe and minimizing risk. We all appreciate those who have stayed home, practiced good social distancing and more vigorous hygiene rituals.  The inconveniences of today will allow us to return to the “new” normal more quickly.

The City will continue to follow recommendations and guidance from Galveston County and the State of Texas and continue to assess the situation and will provide updates regularly about future impacts to the community through the City’s website and social media pages.
