Galveston County Precinct 4 Commissioner Ken Clark said while unemployment is rising and businesses are closed, there are still some positives despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Community Impact Newspaper reports the county has stayed open, unlike many neighboring counties.
Clark said during a webinar on June 7 that Galveston County has been issuing licenses, including marriage and divorce licenses, and has kept county buildings open.
"The county never closed and kept operations open, but took extra precautions,” he said during the webinar.
In addition to staying open, the county has been ramping up coronavirus testing.
“We’ve been very aggressive trying to get that testing going," Clark said during the webinar.
While the county has remained open, businesses have closed, with some restaurants allowed to open at 50% capacity. Under Phase 3 of the state plan, businesses will next be able to have 75% capacity, according to Community Impact Newspaper.
