Shriners Burns Hospital issued the following announcement on July 6
Shriners Children’s Twin Cities has moved their pediatric health care facility to a new building in the City Place development in Woodbury, Minnesota. This move is the final step in their transition to a pediatric orthopaedic outpatient clinic model.
“Current health care trends, such as more outpatient-oriented care, required us to adjust our delivery model to more accurately reflect today’s environment,” said Roger Robinson, chairman of the Board of Governors for Shriners Children’s Twin Cities. “At our new clinic location, patients will continue to receive the same high quality pediatric orthopaedic care that they have been accustomed to receiving, regardless of their ability to pay. Shriners Children’s Twin Cities will continue our long-standing commitment to provide the best care for our patients and their families in this new facility.”
Patients and staff are enjoying the new building and community. The clinic is located in the large suburb of Woodbury off Radio Drive, just south of Interstate-94. It is in close proximity to several amenities, including two hotels across the parking lot and a wide variety of restaurants that are within walking distance.
Developing this new site allowed for a special opportunity to create a patient-centered environment for the modern era. The theme from the beginning was to create a facility that is “high-tech” and “high-touch” – the latest in technology to benefit our patients, but with a friendly and accessible atmosphere that matches our culture of putting children at the center of everything we do. The new Shriners Children’s Twin Cities clinic will continue to serve children from a seven-state service area.
Shriners Children’s new facility allows staff to continue to provide a wide range of services for children with orthopaedic conditions including:
- Clinic services: providing a family-centered, team approach to care. Patients will see specialty physicians, nurses, therapists and other pediatric-trained specialists in an environment designed for children.
- Child life: providing families with support during appointments through play and anxiety-coping activities. The child life program also offers over 20 camps and programs to meet the physical and emotional needs of children with orthopaedic conditions.
- Radiology: providing digital X-ray service as well as EOS, which provides 3-D, full-body imaging with up to 85% lower radiation.
- Rehabilitation: providing physical and occupational therapy to help children build skills, strength and mobility needed for everyday activities.
- Scoliosis specific exercise: a specialized physical therapy program that uses exercises, stretching and breathing to improve a patient’s scoliotic posture.
- Orthotics and prosthetics: offering orthotic and prosthetic services specifically for children, including upper and lower extremity prosthetic care, scoliosis bracing and a broad spectrum of pediatric orthotic services.
- Virtual visits: telehealth capabilities that enable video connection to patient homes and other remote sites across the region, creating more opportunities for access to children in need of pediatric orthopaedic services.
- Surgery services: When surgery is required, it will be performed by Shriners Children’s Twin Cities physicians at a nearby pediatric hospital.
