Galveston’s service industry employees can now benefit from free COVID-19 testing.

The free testing is being funded by the CARES Act. Those who can take advantage of free testing include employees of hotels/motels, restaurants and bars, grocery stores, and other jobs that require them to interact with others from the public regularly. Often times, these employees don’t have health insurance.

While the University of Texas Medical Branch is slated to provide free testing at the Galveston location, applicants have to apply and schedule the testing with the Grants & Housing Department. Applicants can call the department at 409-797-3820 to set their appointment. Companies can also contact the department for details on how to provide testing for their employees.

Those being tested also have to earn less than $44,150 a year. Applications can be downloaded online.
