Texas A&M University issued the following announcement.
The Aggie Special Events Center (ASEC) was completed in 2019 and is the newest addition to the beautiful Texas A&M University at Galveston campus.
We know our campus is beautiful, but it’s nice when others recognize it, too. The Houston Business Journal has named the Aggies Special Events Center (ASEC) a finalist in its Landmark Awards 2020 competition in the public assembly category.
Opened in 2019, ASEC is a multipurpose space for our entire campus and visitors to enjoy. On the ground floor is the university mailroom, bookstore, the Mugdown coffee cafe, a suite of conference rooms and the back area features office areas for our Human Resources and Administration & Auxiliary Services personnel.
The sizable upstairs ballroom can hold around 1,000 people in its over 11,000-square feet and can be divided in five convenient ways. It also comes fully equipped with all appropriate audio and visual necessities as well as multiple large drop-down screens.
“The natural light, modern design, energy efficiency and expansive campus views ASEC offers make it a popular study space with our students and just an overall showcase facility,” said Associate Vice President for Administration and Auxiliary Services Grant Shallenberger ‘86.
Projects are recognized for excellence in design, construction, land planning, management and marketing and their ability to positively portray the look, feel and image of the Greater Houston area. Entries were judged on their total impact to the area, including visual plan, environmental friendliness, job creation and more.
The general contractors for ASEC were Linbeck Group, LLC and Vaughn Construction. PGAL Inc. acted as both architects and interior designers for the project
Award winners will be announced September 24, 2020.
