Galveston County Commissioners have approved a $144.7 million budget for fiscal year 2021, which will take effect on Oct. 1.
The Commissioners Court voted in favor of the budget on Sept. 8, which highlights a reduction in the property tax rate for residents, according to the county. The property tax rate will drop 8% this fiscal year, which goes hand-in-hand with Galveston County collecting less revenue.
This will be the 10th consecutive year that the county sees a property tax rate reduction, which makes it the only Greater Houston Area county that has done so. The Galveston County property tax rate has been decreased by 24.3% since 2011 by County Judge Mark Henry and the Commissioners Court.
The county has been able to continue to decrease the property tax rate due to the economic growth seen in the area.
