As part of a review and update of department policies, the Galveston Police Department is inviting the public to provide comment on a working draft of a policy manual.

The comment period will take place from through Oct. 23 and can be done online the city reported in a press release. The form is located online.

The department began a comprehensive review more than a year ago. While it routinely updates its manual, this is the first time it has placed most of its manual online. Some policies not placed online are of a sensitive nature to operations and include SWAT operations, hostage rescue and bomb calls. Once the comment period is concluded, the department along with the city attorney and city leadership will consider comments before finalizing the manual.

"We’re pleased at all the work that has gone into this policy review and the opportunity to publish it for our residents to review,” Chief Vernon Hale said. "We look forward to receiving public feedback."
