CITY OF CLEAR LAKE SHORES: A Message from Chief Tracy Keele

Sign

City of Clear Lake Shores issued the following announcement.

Each year, we learn of tragic and devastating consequences of accidental injury or deaths related to New Years Eve celebrations.  Celebratory gunfire is not unheard of, and far too common to say the least. Injury and death can, and often does occur when someone chooses to fire a handgun, rifle, or shotgun into the air to “ring in” the New Year.

This practice is NOT SAFE, and the behavior is criminal. One law that cannot be broken is “Physics”, and what goes up, must come down. Bullets fired upward can very easily find a target in a nearby neighborhood, occupied dwelling, or passing vehicle/pedestrian.

The Clear Lake Shores Police Department, as well as all of our surrounding agencies agree that this behavior must be actively investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law when information is developed to any occurrences of this kind.

While we  can all agree that this year, we are hopeful and deserving of celebrating the difficult navigation of our current pandemic, civil climate, and uncertainty of the coming year, we look forward to progress and reclaiming what we’ve lost throughout this year.

The Clear Lake Shores Police Department, its officers and staff offer our support and solidarity to everyone in and around our community. We truly believe that we are stronger together.

Here’s to hoping and praying for better times, better health, and more prosperity than we can imagine in the coming year.

May God Bless each and every one of you, and May God Bless America

Chief Tracy Keele
