Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metro surpass New York-Newark-Jersey City in 2019

The Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metro area exported $129.7 billion in 2019, more than exports from New York-Newark-Jersey City in 2019, according to the International Trade Administration.

A study from the Brookings Institute found competition between areas within the United States increases exports, which in turn generates stronger sales and more jobs for American workers.

The Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metro area consists of nine counties.

The New York-Newark-Jersey City metro area comprises 10 counties exporting $77.8 billion in 2019.

Among metro areas in the U.S., the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metro was responsible for the most exports in 2019.
