Over $2.8 million in Hurricane Harvey relief funds have been approved by the Texas General Land Office (GLO) to support a home acquisition program.

According to a news release from the GLO, Texas Land Commissioner George Bush said the program was approved for $2,838,296. It will be used to purchase homes in flood plains or areas with frequent flooding in Galveston County.

"Hurricane Harvey devastated communities across the Texas Coast," Bush said in the news release. "These recovery funds are critical to protecting lives, homes and businesses from future storms. We continue to work with our partners in communities across the region to leverage these resources efficiently and effectively to benefit Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey."

Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Bush to the GLO specifically to lead the recovery of homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey. This program is funded with $5.676 billion from the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery fund.
