GALVESTON COLLEGE: College issues shelter-in-place for Sept. 21-23

Devry

Galveston College issued the following announcement.

Tropical Storm Beta is forecast to continue to affect the Texas Gulf Coast this week.

In the interest of safety of students, faculty and staff, Galveston College officials issued a shelter-in-place response for this weather event, effective Monday, Sept. 21, through Wednesday, Sept. 23. A shelter-in-place limits access to and from the campus to essential personnel and student residents.

All instructional activities will be supported remotely. Staff, unless needed as essential on campus, should work remotely.

Students who experience difficulties completing their work assignments should communicate via their usual means to their faculty member. Faculty and staff who experience difficulties completing their duties, instruction or work assignments while off-campus should contact their department chair or supervisor to determine available options.

Students, faculty and staff with computer issues can contact the Information Technology service desk at helpdesk@gc.edu.

Galveston College David Glenn Hunt Memorial Library resources will be available online.

All student services, including the Student Success Center, Counseling and Advising Center, Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, TRIO programs and Student Life, will be available online, by phone and by email.

Events and activities, such as the Food for Thought drive-through food distribution, will be rescheduled.

Galveston College strives to make decisions in the best interest of safety for students, faculty and staff while also reducing disruption where possible. As such, decisions will be reevaluated daily and may be adjusted based on current weather conditions.

The Galveston College Emergency Management Team will continue to monitor developing conditions in consultation with city and state emergency management personnel and provide daily communications on the status of college operations.  All decisions related to campus operations will be communicated via Galveston College Blackboard Connect alerts, the college website at GC.edu and social media.
