Hitchcock ISD welcomed 1,717 students in 2021-22 school year

There were 1,717 students enrolled in Hitchcock ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 4.4% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.6% of them were boys, and 47.4% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Hitchcock ISD students was African American, accounting for 38.8% of the student population.

Hitchcock ISD roughly covers schools within Galveston County with its main office in Hitchcock.

Among the five schools in Hitchcock ISD, Hitchcock High School recorded the highest enrollment of 429 students in the 2021-22 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
