GALVESTON COLLEGE: Galveston College to offer Associate of Applied Science in Instrumentation Technology

Galveston College issued the following announcement on April 15.

Galveston College has received approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the Associate of Applied Science in Instrumentation Technology.

The 60 credit-hour program is designed to prepare graduates for employment as entry-level instrumentation technicians in chemical plants, oil refineries, electrical power plants and water treatment facilities.

The program will include three stackable Instrumentation Technology certificates: Basic (16 hours), Intermediate (32 hours) and Advanced (45 hours).

Initial enrollment is expected to be 20 students with courses delivered through a combination of face-to-face, hybrid and laboratory instruction.

According to Texas Workforce Commission data projections, employment of instrumentation technicians in the Gulf Coast region is expected to increase by 16 percent from 2016 to 2026. The average hourly salary for instrumentation technicians ranges from $20 to $67 an hour.

The program was approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in December 2019.
