College of the Mainland issued the following announcement.
Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the College of the Mainland Board of Trustees approved postponing its maintenance tax note election to November 3, 2020. During its regular board meeting on Monday, March 30 the trustees unanimously approved postponing the election to the fall.
The postponement was based on Governor Greg Abbott’s March 18 proclamation allowing political subdivisions to move general and special elections to the next uniform election date, on November 3.
With voter approval, the proposal will allow the college to refinance its maintenance tax notes and take advantage of the market’s low interest rates by refinancing its existing maintenance tax debt at a reduced rate.
Registered voters that live within the Dickinson, Hitchcock, Santa Fe and Texas City (including La Marque) school districts are eligible to vote on the proposal because they are within the COM taxing district.
The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
